Factory Replacement Wheels - Caring For Your Vehicle's Tires

By Daphne Bowen

A vehicle relies on its different systems for it to provide a satisfactory service. Poor quality parts can lead to problems and probably early and unexpected failures. Using factory replacement wheels helps keep the vehicle in good condition and for it to deliver the expected ride quality. Carrying out regular maintenance and cleaning the vehicle and other parts ensures peace of mind to the user.

The appearance of any vehicle is affected not only by the color and other external features but also its rims and tires. Cleanliness plays a major part in creating a great impression. Regular cleaning keeps the rims and tires not only looking great, but it also extends their life. It is important to know how to clean them properly without causing other problems in the process.

An effective way that helps in keeping wheels in great condition is to clean them properly, often. Cleaning them thoroughly once in a while is a ritual that can pay off in the long run. If this is skipped, dirt, road grime and dust from the braking system will settle on tires and rims and create a film that can cause damage. The longer the filth stays without being washed, the harder it will be to remove later.

For best results, use the right cleaning agent to prevent unintentional damage. There are different classes of cleaners, some of which are mild and others are strong. If you are unsure of which type is best for you, use a mild one. It is not likely to cause harm as a strong cleaner would. Coated rims are especially sensitive to strong cleaners, so choose accordingly.

Be cautious by checking the labels or other accompanying instructions to find out if there is any issue you need to know before starting. A general cleaner that is suitable for both the rims and the tires is good too. Using such a product will make your work easier since you wash an entire wheel in one go. Washing in bits can lead to time wastage and doing double work.

The type of rims you want to clean will determine which type of brush you should use. Coated rims are not meant to be brushed using tough bristled brushes as they can affect the surface. Use a soft feathered brush instead. Heavily stained rims might require a different kind of brush to make them clean as required. To clean your tires, use a strong brush made of tough nylon bristles.

It is not appropriate for some cleaning agents to dry up on a wheel. To avoid this, work on one wheel at a time before moving to the next. Just brush it up as required, then rinse it off to ensure the cleaner is washed off completely. Use a suitable cloth or towel to dry it up before applying anything else like protection wax.

Keeping a vehicle clean makes it look great and also helps in maintaining it in good condition. The tires and rims, like any other part, require proper maintenance too. Knowing what cleaning agents to use and how to use them makes it easier to avoid costly mistakes that can affect the condition of a wheel.
